Who they are
Founded to speak for animals who cannot.
Free The Wild was co-founded by Cher with Mark Cowne and Gina Nelthorpe-Cowne after the campaign to rescue Kaavan, the lone elephant held for decades at a zoo in Islamabad. That case showed what a determined team, expert veterinary support and public pressure can achieve together.
Since then the charity has worked on cases around the world, from bears and big cats to elephants and primates, investigating conditions, funding veterinary assessments and moving animals to sanctuaries where their welfare comes first.
Rescue and relocation
Free The Wild works with governments, sanctuaries, veterinary teams and local partners to move animals out of inadequate captivity and into accredited sanctuaries and protected reserves where they can live out their lives with proper care.
Care and rehabilitation
Rescue is only the beginning. The charity funds veterinary treatment, transport, enclosures, food and long-term care so that each animal has somewhere safe to go and the means to recover.
Campaigning and awareness
Free The Wild campaigns publicly for better welfare standards for captive wild animals worldwide, raising cases that would otherwise go unseen and pressing for change in the places that hold them.

FTWCC is run to fund the charity. After the direct costs of running the club and its activities, every remaining penny goes to Free The Wild, registered charity number 1173936. Your membership, your expedition places and your time at the Free The Wild Conservation Centre all feed the same mission.
